UNDER THE DOME by Stephen King

Under the Dome by Stephen King Narrated by: Raul Esparza Publisher: Simon & Schuster Audio Length: 34 hours, 29 minutes Source: Purchased Buy on Amazon UNDER THE DOME by Stephen King Book Review (4 out of 5 Stars) I’ve always enjoyed reading Stephen King, starting with Pet Cemetery back in high school and his short stories and novellas (The Langoliers, Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, The Body), through college, though, my favorite book was The Stand. Last year, I reconnected with King’s works by starting the Dark Tower novels (thanks to Amie’s recommendation), and became interested in reading Under the Dome. The story focuses on the town of Chester’s Mill, Maine, where one fall day the inhabitants find themselves trapped by a giant, clear dome. The world is soon split into those inside the dome and the rest of the world outside trying to free them. Many of the [...]

Upcoming Book Releases November 2009

Take a look at the November book releases I think you’ll be interested in: Kindred in Death by J. D. Robb Available November 3, 2009 (Order on Amazon) From the publisher: When the newly promoted captain of the NYPSD and his wife return a day early from their vacation, they were looking forward to spending time with their bright and vivacious sixteen-year-old daughter who had stayed behind. Not even their worst nightmares could have prepared them for the crime scene that awaited them instead. Brutally murdered in her bedroom, Deena’s body showed signs of trauma that horrified even the toughest of cops; including our own Lieutenant Eve Dallas, who was specifically requested by the captain to investigate. When the evidence starts to pile up, Dallas and her team think they are about to arrest their perpetrator; little do they know yet that someone has gone to great lengths to tease [...]

Ten Spooky Books to Read for Halloween

Halloween is only a few weeks away and here in Michigan the leaves are starting to change and there’s a chill in the air. It’s perfect weather for curling up with a cup of tea and a good book. In honor of Halloween, here’s a list of spooky/mystery/supernatural stories you may enjoy: Just After Sunset by Stephen King This collection of 13 short stories ranges from horror to gross-you-out to more common things we are fearful of like divorce and terminal illness. Stories include “The Cat from Hell” which is about a killer cat and the hit man hired to kill it and “N” which features a mental patient with OCD. Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger What could be better for fall reading than a gothic ghost story set in and around London’s Highgate Cemetery? It’s a creepy (but not scary) story and the dreary London weather creates the [...]

THE EYES OF THE DRAGON Book Review

THE EYES OF THE DRAGON by Stephen King Although Stephen King wrote The Eyes of The Dragon in the late eighties, I only discovered it recently while snooping around in a used bookstore. It’s now one of my favorite books in my collection. Although King is undoubtedly great at writing horror and science fiction, my favorite works of his all tend to be in the fantasy genre. King is a master at creating different worlds and characters that are so captivating, he makes it look easy. In The Eyes of The Dragon, King has crafted a fun, page-turning, read that goes by all to fast. So what is The Eyes of The Dragon all about? I’m going to actually quote an excerpt from the back of the book because when I read it, it immediately made me want to buy it: “Once upon a time there was terror and dragons [...]

EVERYTHING’S EVENTUAL Book Review

EVERYTHING’S EVENTUAL by Stephen King I recently took a friends recommendation and checked out Everything’s Eventual by Stephen King. Everything’s Eventual is a collection of 14 dark tales and was published in 2002. Some of the short stories were taken from various past publications, like The New Yorker, and USA weekend. I really enjoy Stephen King’s writing and have read a couple dozen or so of his other books. I don’t enjoy scary movies too much though, (mostly because the loud, suspenseful music nearly gives me a heartatack), but scary books I can manage. Now this particular book I checked out on audio which I would strongly recommend. Something about hearing the stories made it even more frightening (but not as bad as seeing it on film). Here’s a quick summary of some of my favorite stories from the book: Everything’s Eventual – This story is narrated by 19 year [...]

THE GUNSLINGER Review

THE GUNSLINGER by Stephen King The Gunslinger is the first book in a 7 part series known as “The Dark Tower” by Stephen King. He began the first book in 1970 and didn’t finish it until 12 years later in 1982. That’s just the first book. He didn’t finish book 7 of the series until 2004. So, if you haven’t read them yet, it’s a great time to start as you won’t have to wait over 20 years to find out what happens (unless you are a really slow reader). Another interesting point I’ll make about this book is that this series is the most near and dear to King’s heart. He got the idea for The Gunslinger in college when he read the poem “Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came” by Robert Browning. If you are a big Stephen King fan you’ll notice that he places characters from [...]
