Christmas 2009 Books

There were certain books growing up that always put me in the Christmas spirit. Here are a few must-reads for the holidays season. Although most of these are children’s books I think they are good reads of people of all ages.

The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg – On Christmas eve a steam train escorts children from their homes to the North Pole to visit Santa. I can still remember my elementary school teacher reading our class this book.

How The Grinch Stole Christmas! by Dr. Seuss – An evil fellow named The Grinch sets out to destroy Christmas for all the citizens of Who-ville. This is my personal favorite, The Grinch is such an awesome and misunderstood character.

The Night Before Christmas by Clement Clarke Moore – The famous rhyming Christmas tale that begins “Twas the night before Christmas…”. Just thinking about this book puts me in the mood for Christmas trees, chimneys, and toys.

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens – If you are too high-brow to be taken in by the humors of The Grinch, consider Dicken’s A Christmas Carol which holds a similar character in Ebenezer Scrooge. Scrooge is visited one Christmas Eve by 3 ghosts who show him his past, present, and future.
